Liberty's Cry

Liberty's Cry

LIBERTY’S CRY
By Catherine Woods
Word count: 88
Rating: G
Summary: An ode to freedom

Countries can crumble,

Nations can die,

On the ruins of empires

America lies.

With her shimmering waters

And high white-topped peaks

Where in bright shining glory

The earth and sky meet.

As the heartstrings of Liberty

With a riveting cry

Sing a hymn to our freedom-

May the song never die.

And when enemies gather

And seek to destroy,

Old men will get up

And say to the boy,

“Go and fight for your country,

Go fight for your kin,

Fight for your Freedom

And the heartbeat within.”
