Summary: A brief biography of Disney’s Darkwing Duck

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome again to Superhero Sundays. I’m Ian Wilson, the comic book and superhero expert of Fellowship and Fairydust. Today, I want to talk about one of my childhood heroes, the terror that flaps in the night. Darkwing Duck!

By day, Drake Mallard is the unassuming resident of a suburban neighborhood adoptive father to Gosalyn, a hotheaded tomboy. By night, he is the intrepid crimefighter of St. Canard. With his sidekick, Launchpad McQuack, Darkwing takes on all manner of villains, such as Negaduck, Bushroot, Quackerjack, Megavolt, among others. Though Darkwing Duck has no actual superpowers, he does have a variety of gadgets and gizmos to aid in his fight against injustice, along with his famous catchphrase “Let’s get dangerous!”

Drake Mallard’s greatest weakness, however, is his desire to win the praise and recognition of the citizens of St. Canard. This is why he was reluctant to take Launchpad on as a sidekick; he didn’t want to share credit with anyone else. Drake must balance his obsession with fame with his desire to do the right thing and be a good role model to Goselyn.

Darkwing Duck first appeared on the ABC TV network in 1991, and he was created by animator Tad Stones.
