Thanksgiving is continuous
For those who know:
Does not require fixed day and month
And Macy’s show.
Thanksgiving is an act of will
For those with much:
Iron strength still comes from bended knees.
‘Tis not a crutch.
Well and ill, we all partake
Of Your heart’s fires;
A billion hungers, yet Your peace
Fills all desires.
We are the richest of Your poor;
Your ransomed kin;
Of every skin, of peace and war–
All gathered in.
We are the prodigals come home;
One destiny.
A cross hangs from our wall:
Thanksgiving tree.
Thanksgiving is continuous
For those who know . . .
Great job on expressing the Catholic perspective of a holiday. Calling the crucifix a “Thanksgiving Tree” is really appropo, and I appreciate the way that you roped together both the blessings and hungers that all of us experience, and the way that God is the ultimate gift and satisfaction.
Thank you so much! I was trying to brush up my old “A Thanksgiving” from the second issue of “Expressions” but the turkey exhaustion must have been getting to me, because after floundering around for a while, I realized it would probably be less intensive to simply write a new one 😀
