Day of St. Patrick

Day of St. Patrick

By Amanda Pizzolatto

Good luck charms and three-leaf clovers

Seeing the color green plastered all over

With hints of gold for leprechaun treasure

And kegs of beer for clurichaun pleasure

Orange and white complete the Irish flag

And a Celtic cross on the rest of the swag

This is just a taste of a vibrant culture

For history and myth make up the structure

Of a people strong, brave, and true

Some used to cover themselves in blue

A tradition seen as barbaric to some

But a tradition only mentioned by one

Yet on this day we celebrate a great man

One who converted all of Ireland

He who banished the snakes to the sea

Used the shamrock for the Holy Trinity

And got that Easter fire burning bright

Unable to be extinguished during the night

Which opened many an Irish eye

To the wonder and might of God on High
