Summary: Nico Di Angelo, son of Hades, is used to being alone, until one day a girl with auburn hair waltzes into his life…
A few days later, Nico was walking near the cemetary yet again, wondering if the Pevensies would be back, knowing as how they had said they would be in New York for a while and would like to see him again. In a few minutes, he heard the sound of voices heading his way. Almost at the same time, an uneasy feeling washed over him, prompting him to walk towards the group quickly. His heart skipped a beat as he noticed with excitement that several of the voices belonged to the Pevensies and their friends. But as they got closer, Nico saw exactly who else was with them, and was soon surrounded by a crowd of his friends. Nico grimaced, he hated being cornered, even if it was by the people who had come to mean so much to him. However, his mortals friends were closer than his demigod friends, so he couldn’t shadow-travel. He gritted his teeth. He didn’t know how, but someone at camp had found out about his going to the wedding, and now everyone he knew seemed to beg him for an explanation, and not everyone would have it from him. Only the ones from the camps might understand, but they were right to stand back as they knew Nico wouldn’t risk exposing the world behind the Mist to his new-found friends. They would get it later, for sure, but for now, there was nothing Nico could do but talk, and try to get them out of the cemetery.
“So, care to explain why you didn’t tell us about this wedding you were invited to?” Leo asked, peering at Nico over Lucy’s head.
“I wanted to do stuff with different people, is that so wrong? Can we get out of the cemetery now?” Nico grumbled.
“What’s wrong with the cemetery? This is your usual haunt,” Leo stated, putting an extra emphasis on the word haunt.
“Something’s not right,” was all Nico could say. He couldn’t explain what was going on, but whatever was watching them was most certainly not a ghost nor a Greek monster, and Nico wasn’t sure if he wanted to find out exactly what it was. Thankfully his demigod friends caught the hint, and everyone moved away from the cemetery. They had only gone a few feet when the crazy doctor intercepted them. Nico noticed he was looking straight behind them.
“Get to the TARDIS, now,” he ordered, pointing behind himself. Peter’s and Edmund’s eyes grew wide. With Jay’s and Jesse’s help, they began herding the group in the direction the doctor indicated. The group stopped at an old, blue police box and Peter opened the door.
“Wait, you expect all of us to fit into that?” Percy asked incredulously.
“Further in, further out,” came Lucy’s reply as she and her friends piled in. The demigods stared in awe as all of them somehow squeezed in.
“Get in!’ Peter said, in a tone that expected immediate obedience. The demigods didn’t argue, and began filing in. Nico glanced behind him to see where the doctor was, and was surprised that the doctor was walking backwards, and fast. He didn’t get to look for the thing the doctor was getting away from, for at that moment Peter grabbed him by the jacket and pushed him through the door, yelling at the same time, “Doctor, come on!” The Doctor turned and ran straight for the police box, following Peter through the door. The two turned and slammed the door shut, but not before Nico froze in fear. He saw what they were running from, and he couldn’t believe what he had seen.
“That statue moved, that statue moved! How did it move? How could it move?” Nico practically panicked. He turned to look at everyone, then gaped again as he saw the inside of the TARDIS.
“What in Hephaestus’s name is going on?” Leo shouted as the Doctor ran to the control panel in the middle of the enormous room.
“Give me just a sec,” the Doctor said, throwing a few switches. There were a few rumbling sounds amid the squeaks of levers, and everyone was knocked off their feet, except the Doctor.
“What is this thing?” exclaimed Frank as he rose from the floor, giving Hazel a hand up.
“Doctor, what’s wrong?” Lucy asked, worry creeping into her voice.
He sighed, “The Angels are back.” There was an audible, frightened gasp from Lucy’s group. Nico noticed a look of fear on their faces.
“The Angels? What Angels?” he asked. The Doctor looked at him, his face grim.
“Something you all should fear. Let me show you something they can do,” he said, flipping another switch. A monitor turned on and a black-and-white video of an enclosed room with an angel statue inside came into focus.
“No, Doctor, please,” whimpered Susan. The demigods glanced at her as she clutched Jay’s sleeve, dread fear stamped on her face. Jay and the rest didn’t look any better. Leo scoffed and winked at the other demigods as if to say, “Like they know what’s scary out there.”
“You’re not looking at the screen!” yelled Lucy, as she ran in front of them, looking at the video. Then everyone gasped, the statue had moved from the corner of the room straight to the camera, looking at them.
“Don’t look into their eyes,” the Doctor said softly.
“Why not?” Percy asked, everyone looking at the Doctor for an answer. But all he got was a scream from Lucy and Annabeth in response. They looked back at the monitor again, this time with the same fear that gripped the others now creeping into their hearts. The face of the angel had changed, now it no longer looked like an angel but a demon with fangs protruding from its mouth.
“H-how? How is this possible? It’s only a statue, right?” Leo stuttered, daring a glance at the Doctor for an explanation.
“That’s what they want you to think. Then you turn your head, then you blink, and their true nature comes to life, long enough for them to get closer to you, to kill you,” said the Doctor grimly. Nico didn’t like what he was hearing, but he was distracted from anything else when Lucy backed up into him, causing them both to lose sight of the video. This time, Susan warned them of the danger with a scream. Nico and Lucy glanced up, the Angel had come straight out of the video feed, and was glaring down at them, claws hovering over their heads, ready for attack.
“Don’t look in their eyes, don’t look in their eyes,” Lucy muttered, over and over again, reminding everyone of the Doctor’s warning.
“Doctor, turn it off!” Peter yelled, rushing to the Doctor’s side.
“I can’t just yet, the Angel has control over the feed!” the Doctor replied, pulling levers and pushing buttons. Leo joined his side as he continued, “I have to wait for the right moment, Amy found it. Just don’t look in their eyes!” Nico growled, he wasn’t going to wait, if these things were alive, they could be killed. Then, in one swift motion, he unsheathed his sword and slashed through the image. There was dead silence as time itself seemed to stand still when Nico’s sword came into contact with the Angel.
