I am the fertility of the earth
I am the warmth of the sun
I am love’s first kiss
I am the May king and queen
I am the green of the grass
I am the return of hope
I am the spiral dance
I am the joining of hands
I am the apple and cherry blossom
I am the beacon fire
I am a hill of magic
I am the rebirth of trees
I am the awakening from slumber
I am a bloom and garland of roses
I am the joyful dance of life
I am the gateway between worlds
I am the return of Jack in The Green
I am the laughter and joy of children
I am Beltane.
Beltane Blessings to you my friend! And thank you for those Beautiful words!
The annual Beltane Fire Festival was held last night on Calton Hill, Edinburgh. I have never actually been to it, but living here means we do see a lot of pictures of the event. It is on my bucket list for 2017.
Lovely!
Blessings on Beltane!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! This is perfect! I’ve been looking for something like this.
Wonderful!!
Beautiful.
Beautiful poem. I am a Catholic and it is obvious that the poem celebrates Creation, that same Creation of God the Father who created all of creation. Not a demigod or pagan deity. The fact about Celtic lore is that the mysticism of the Celts in Ireland (the same Celts who once populated all of southern Europe) was intertwined with Christianity when St Patrick and St Columba et al evangelized the island. Where pagan sites were popular, they built chapels and churches and infused the local spirituality into the Liturgy. This same thing is done today in places like Africa and So. America. There are traits of that spirituality handed down to us from the beginning of Christianity and is extant in our liturgy, our rites for saints and other sacred festivals in Christendom.
We had a very lovely Beltane celebration yesterday! Beltane Blessings to you all!
A joyous and exuberant poem for May Day, and the blending spring and summer seasons. I love the Celtic mythologies involving the Green Man marrying the Lady of Summer, and their fertility bringing into being the greenery of the wood and the blossoming of flowers. I think they are beautifully evocative symbols for the natural happenings we see taken place around us. Of course for Catholics, we also see May as a time to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, who conceived and bore the Son of God, bringing New Life to all the earth.
Beautiful!!
