NOW AND FOREVER

Summary: The poet asks forgiveness for past sins
Even before I came to be,
You saw my wayward path,
But with a Father’s tender
And merciful love
You gave me the gift of life.
For too many years I strayed,
But now that I have returned to you
And cast off the shackles
Binding me to sin and sorrow,
Keep me ever in your care.
Forgive the wandering days
Wasted in sad, sinful confusion—
Days that even I cannot explain,
Knowing them as I do.
Of what good are excuses?
But if words alone might grant
The painful memories an honest healing
And bring peace to my soul,
Then with your help, I pledge:
Now and forever I am yours.
