~ by Kashif Qaimi
If I were there with you,
I would spend hour upon hour
Seated by your side,
Watching you as you sleep
Or while you are at your work,
Or when a smile lights up your face
If you were thirsty,
I would bring you a glass of water
Like a loyal servant,
Like a true companion.
If you were hungry,
I would make you an omelet,
Or perhaps a cup of coffee.
If I was there with you,
I would make you realize
Your worth to me
If I was there when you woke in the night,
I would say nothing…
But gaze upon your eyes, half-opened from slumber
Your silken hairs falling across your forehead,
And curled around your neck
If I were there with you
I would put your hand on my heart
So you could feel your name
Beating inside,
And within the chamber
Where you reside
If only I were there…
