A Remembered Place

A Remembered Place

A memory surfaces in my mind;

emotions start to stir.

A place embedded in my heart

that sticks me like a burr.

This place, I knew not long ago,

where once I did reside.

Forever locked within my heart

and, in my mind, abides.

Always treasured it will be,

and when I shall return,

the pain residing in myself

will then no longer burn.

But fleeting is this restful state,

for time passes too swift.

And leave I must, this place I love,

leaving my heart adrift.

Return, once more, the hurting ache

that leaves an empty space.

This fond regard that’s always there

for this remembered place.
