My Lady of Green and Growing Things

My Lady of Green and Growing Things

My Lady of Green and Growing Things
your time has come to slumber.
Retreat back down – beneath the ground;
next year’s growth to nurture.

The hooves of the Hunt drum as they pass,
and the Lord of the Lost he leads them.
Over and down they race cross the ground;
the Cwn Annwn before them.

The Summer is done, and Autumn moves on
in shades of orange and gold;
for the winds of the north will be turning this way,
their chill determined and bold.

There’s strength in retreat, so I will not weep,
and your consort he keeps careful view
on barren expanses and through snow-covered branches;
and all for his love of you.

In earth you will sleep, while your kingdom he keeps,
awaiting your springtime awakening;
when the Light of the Sun is once again come,
and the fruits of your dreaming are quickening.

For you are the land, the life, and its song,
and he is its guardian true.
You give your life to everything born,
and he gives his life for you.
