Heart unto Heart

Heart unto Heart

In honor of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, and all my fellow pro-life advocates who have dedicated their lives to caring for women and children, born and unborn. #prolifeforthewholelife

On this day

We hail the feast

Of heaven’s fountain,

Red with wine,

Flowing for the wedding feast

Of God Incanate.

We hear the drumming,

Inside and outside,

Beckoning us

To this Heart of flesh

That beats with love

Divine,

That bleeds with mercy

Fathomless.

Each drop

An ocean’s depth,

Where pearls lie waiting

In their shells.

Oh, break them open!

Pierce us through!

Pin us back against the rood!

Come, enter the bride’s chamber

So she may hear the pulse,

Her head upon Your breast,

And consummate this union!

O Knight, slain as a serf

To woo redemption,

O Prince of thorns and lillies,

Crushed for ointment,

Grant us agony and bliss!

Take our hearts as tokens

And put Yours in their stead

That we may live Your Life!

Let us be the midwives

Of Your heart

Beating in every breast.

Let us keep an open wound

To feel our neighbor’s pain.

The least of these are Yours,

The tiny flames of life

Springing up

Like John the Baptist leaped

When your Mother spoke her greeting.

You were there –

Your Heart beneath her heart,

As You where knit and kneaded

In that sacred shelter.

Her presence and protection,

Her blood and milk,

Her womanhood

Brought God and Man

Together.

What greater love is there?

We spend our lives for others,

As Yours was spent for us,

And so You are our Mother,

And our Brother,

And our Lover,

And the slain in every tomb,

And the child in every womb,

And we are bound to you,

Heart unto heart,

In time

And in eternity.
