Kingly Gifts

Kingly Gifts

Build for me a treasure chest

Build only the very best

Make it sturdy, make it strong

Make it as lovely as a song

But be small enough for a mule

Adorn it with exquisite jewels

And inlay with the finest wood

Exquisite etchings on the hood

Fill it up to the very top

A shower of golden drops

For a King I am off to see

A King born for you and me

A King was born this holy night

Heaven has sent its blessed light

With a Way back to Paradise

Our home hidden in the skies

And a message to the whole Earth

Brighter than fire in the hearth

Of Peace and love to all humanity

If we just follow the Holy Trinity

Build for me an ornate censer

Make it exquisite, I am no miser

Nothing less than perfect design

Etch into its sides flowery lines

And heavenly symbols of every kind

To raise both soul and mind

To the thought of Heaven’s halls

As the incense swirls around all

A glamorous scent for God’s nose

As glamorous as the perfect rose

For it is God Who I go to see

As God has come for you and me

Our God came down this holy night

Heaven has sent its blessed light

With a Way back to Paradise

Our home hidden in the skies

And a message to the whole Earth

Brighter than fire in the hearth

Of Peace and love to all humanity

If we just follow the Holy Trinity

Build for me a keepsake box

Simple but as strong as an ox

Large enough to fit many things

And the memories each one brings

But small enough to carry easily

Should they need to travel very quickly

But for now fill it with myrrh

Though it grieves the lady demure

For she will be in need of it one day

When that will be, God will say

For the Child will die for our sins

So that we may make amends

A Lamb was born this holy night

Heaven has sent its blessed light

With a Way back to Paradise

Our home hidden in the skies

And a message to the whole Earth

Brighter than fire in the hearth

Of Peace and love to all humanity

If we just follow the Holy Trinity

Ho ho ho, come, gather around

Listen, children, to the joyous sound

The echoes of angel choirs singing

In the peals of church bells ringing

For the Christ Child was born this day

In swaddling clothes, the angels did say

To shepherds watching their flock that night

While Wise Men followed a star so bright

Bringing gifts to the Son of God most high

While Bethlehem just hurried on by

But the greatest gift we can give

Is our hearts for as long as we live

Love Divine came this holy night

Heaven has sent its blessed light

With a Way back to Paradise

Our home hidden in the skies

And a message to the whole Earth

Brighter than fire in the hearth

Of Peace and love to all humanity

If we just follow the Holy Trinity
