Summary: A short biography of DC Comics character Mark Moonrider

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome again to Superhero Sundays. I’m Ian Wilson, Fellowship & Fairydust’s comic book and superhero expert. This week, just to change things up, I’ve decided not to write about a superhero; I’m writing about a team of superheroes, DC Comics’ Forever People.

The Forever people are a group of young heroes from the planet New Genesis. They were featured in the Fourth World comic saga, and played an important role in the galactic conflict with Darkseid. The Forever People include Mark Moonrider, Beautiful Dreamer, Big Bear, Serifan, and Vykin the Black. They are roughly based on the Flower Children of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.

Mark Moonrider is the leader of the group, and he is probably the most powerful (and dangerous) member. He is gifted with the “megaton touch” which means he can cause anything he touches to explode with tremendous force; a power he uses only in the most desperate circumstances. Beautiful Dreamer has psionic powers that allow her to create illusions with her mind. Big Bear is the strongest member. He can use his enormous physical strength to lift huge objects. Serifan is the youngest member of the group. He has some telepathic ability, but he carries several “cosmic cartridges” that perform a number of different tasks. Vykin the Black can control magnetic fields. Together, they defend freedom from the powers of Darkseid.

The Forever People first appeared in Forever People #1 back in 1971, and were created by Jack Kirby.
