Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and welcome again to Superhero Sundays. I am Ian Wilson, Fellowship and Fairydust’s comic and superhero expert. Today I wanna touch on Big Barda
Big Barda was one of the Female Furies; an all female unit in the army of Apokolips. She wasn’t just one of them; she was their commander. During a raid on the rebel cell run by Himon (more on him some other time) she met Scott Free, the man who would become Mister Miracle. They fell in love, and began helping Himon overthrow the oppressive regime of Darkseid. Eventually, they ran away together to start a new life on Earth.
Big Barda is strong; really strong. One episode of Mister Miracle she picked an old, Civil War era cannon and carried it around like it was nothing! She also possesses the Mega-Rod; basically a metal rod that can do almost anything she wants it to. She loves Scott passionately, and woe betide anyone who threatened him.
Big Barda was created by who else but Jack Kirby, and appeared in Mister Miracle #4 in 1971.
Fun fact; Big Barda’s personality was based on Jack’s wife Roz Kirby.
