Summary: A brief biography of DC Comics’ Mister Miracle

Good morning, ladies and gents and welcome to another Superhero Sunday. I am Ian WIlson, Fellowship & Fairydust’s comic expert. Today I’ll be talking about DC Comics’ Mister Miracle. He is probably the most well developed character in all of the Fourth World saga.

In one of my earlier installments, I talked about Orion; how he was actually the son of Darkseid, Dark Lord of Apokolips and he was traded in a peace deal with High Father in exchange of Highfather’s son. This is the story of Highfather’s son, Scott Free.

Scott was born on New Genesis, to Highfather, the benevolent leader of New Genesis. After the peace deal, Scott was raised in orphanage of Granny Goodness. Granny raised him to be one of Darkseid’s obedient soldiers. But Scott would not yield. He discovered he had a natural talent for escaping seemingly impenetrable traps. He then encountered Himon, a dissident that Darkseid was never able to subdue. Under Himon’s training, Scott developed his skill as an escape artist. There, he met Big Barda, one of Granny Goodness’ Female Furies. He managed to win her over to his side, and they ran away and got married.

Scott Free and Big Barda then moved to Earth where he took the name Mister Miracle, and, along with his assistant, Oberon, made a living as a professional escape artist. He has had various adventures combating the invading forces of Darkseid, and assisting other superheroes, such as Superman, and other members of the Justice League.

Mister Miracle first appeared in Mister Miracle #1 back in 1971. He was created by the visionary comic artist and writer Jack Kirby, as part of his Fourth World saga.
